The Route of the Sun is a full‑day cultural journey linking Cusco and Puno, departing at 6:45 a.m. from either city. This scenic itinerary blends history, archaeology, and breathtaking Andean landscapes as you travel through the heart of southern Peru. The first stop is the Church of Andahuaylillas, known as the “Sistine Chapel of the Andes” for its remarkable baroque murals and ornate colonial art. The route continues to the Raqchi Archaeological Complex, an impressive Inca sanctuary dedicated to the god Wiracocha, featuring massive walls, ceremonial structures, and ancient storehouses. After crossing traditional highland towns, the journey reaches La Raya Pass, the highest point on the route, offering sweeping views of snow‑capped peaks and wide Andean plains. A buffet lunch is included in the town of Marangani, allowing travelers to enjoy local flavors before continuing toward the altiplano. The final visit is the Pucará Lithic Museum, home to pre‑Inca monoliths and artifacts that reveal the origins of one of the region’s earliest cultures.
